"The body calls out for innovation, and in Claire's experimental performance workshops, alternate wisdoms become 'the body electric' of new possibilities. "
Dana Teen Lomax, author of Disclosure and winner of the John Hopkin's Prize for North American Literature
"I saw Claire Blotter perform in Aspen, and I was so impressed, I invited her to perform in Telluride, Colorado. We did a side gig in the Grand Junction public high school, and the kids loved her. She got them out of their chairs and cheering for poetry. An impressive performance. Back in Telluride she gave a great reading. Her combination of body movement, theatrical delivery and incisive poetry made her a hit with everyone in attendance. She's a poet with performance mojo. Highly recommended."
Art Goodtimes, author of Dancing on the Edge: The Mc Redeye Poems & Co-Director of Talking Gourd Institute, Telluride
Claire Blotter's workshop was one of the first workshops I took in San Francisco. Claire helped bring out the voice, poetry and movement in my pieces. She challenged me (in a good way,) brought out more than I thought I had, and supported me every step of the way. She also created a safe space to explore and take risks; many of us became friends there. Plus, she has a great laugh!
Sara Felder, Performance Artist, Juggler Extraordinaire & Lecturer in San Francisco State University School of Theater and Dance and English Department
"In Claire Blotter’s Bolinas performance classes which I took for many many years, I found my true selves: woodland creature and Zee Vulgarian Shadow. Somehow, through magic and great teaching skills, she gives permission for even the shyest person to emerge into daylight."
Terry Guitar, Artist and Community "Roving Reporter," The Big Island, Hawaii
"I count Claire as one of the top 3 teachers in my life – no matter what she is teaching, she pushes for one's deepest level of truth and authenticity – all the while validating each unique voice. I have been a student in her performance art and poetry classes, as well as the ongoing writing groups she facilitated. It is her tremendous integrity and spirit that creates a safe space for participants to fully show up and be vulnerable… it is in this space where true art is created. I credit Claire for with helping me find my own voice and deepening my work. Thank you, Claire!!"
Eliza Perkins, Performance Artist, Marin
"Took a class with Claire in Performance Art a few years back. The class was creative, intimate, original and provided a spaciousness to dig down deep into the layers. It was inspiring and fun. I live in NY now and there just doesn’t seem to be anything quite like Claire’s class here." Joan Boccafola, Singer/Songer, Performance Artist, New York
"Claire's magic and mastery as a teacher and performance artist allowed me to crack open my creative voice as a changing woman. Working with and watching Claire empowers me to explore the inner landscapes of my life with the bravery and grace of a mountain lioness. All true." Teri Shore, environmentalist, Sonoma
"I still remember how meaningful it was in Claire's Vocal Poetry class at San Francisco State University to share what was in our hearts out loud with one another...And it was also such a blast! Those 2 things don’t often happen together." Sally Doyle, Author of My House is Black Feathers, San Francisco
"Claire Blotter really gets students to trust her and open up on a deeper level. The writing she gets out of them, even the most reluctant learners, constantly astonishes me. Claire's classes are also excellent professional development for me as I learn techniques for being a writing coach and a more effective teacher in the classroom. Also, for a change, I get to be a student and improve my own writing and reading."
